What is the Brownlow Medal?
The Brownlow Medal is awarded
annually at the end of each AFL season
to the best and fairest player in
the league. The medal is named after
Geelong football legend Chas Brownlow,
and has been awarded since 1924.
How are votes awarded?
At the end of each round of the regular
season, the field umpires for each
match award votes to the players they
judge as being the best and fairest
for the match. Votes are awarded in
the order of three, two, one, for
the best three players. The votes
are kept confidential until the end
of the season. If a player is suspended
during the season by the AFL tribunal,
they are ruled ineligible to win the
award.
