Round Highlights

  • Richmond (17.8.110) def Carlton (11.13.79)
Chris Judd played his first regular season game for Carlton but the new captain's 22 possessions weren't enough as at the other end Richo kicked 5 goals and the Tigers recorded their first win of the year.

  • Geelong (15.15.105) def Port Adelaide (14.12.96)

  • Collingwood (16.15.111) def Fremantle (13.7.85)
Six goals from Anthony Rocca was enough to get Collingwood across the line against the Dockers.

  • St Kilda (6.15.51) def Sydney (6.13.49)
Another struggle between these two teams, this time full of pressure, flooding, turnovers and errors, resulted in a low scoring arm-wrestle. St Kilda lead throughout and hung on for a narrow win.

  • West Coast Eagles (14.8.92) def Brisbane Lions (11.10.76)
Although Jonathan Brown kicked six goals it wasn't enough to come back against the Eagles who hung on for the win. West Coast played their first game in a long time without both Chris Judd and Ben Cousins.

  • Western Bulldogs (19.12.126) def Adelaide (18.15.123)
Brad Johnson, playing in his 300th match, kicked the last 3 goals to lead the Bulldogs from behind and win the game.

  • Hawthorn (23.16.154) def (6.14.50)
More a training drill for Buddy Franklin than a real match, Melbourne were pathetic kicking only one goal in the first half. Franklin finished with six and spent most of the game practising his celebrations after scoring goals.

  • Essendon (19.8.122) def Kangaroos (9.13.67)
A game lauded for it's "pace" saw both teams run at each other flat out with the young Bombers playing on bodly and prevailing. Scott Lucas went down in the first quarter with a knee injury and is expected to mis 12 weeks.
